Our mission is to reduce waste as much as possible, as quickly as possible — by building communities around zero waste solutions.
Our Story
ZeroWaste.Org (Live Zero Waste) was founded in Ann Arbor, Michigan. We believe that small, everyday actions add up to massive environmental impact. What started as a campus challenge at the University of Michigan has grown into a movement helping people become champions for zero waste in their homes, neighborhoods, businesses, and organizations.
We know we make way more trash than we — or the planet — can handle. As just one person, it's easy to feel guilty and helpless. But taking action is the best way to go from helpless to hopeful. There is a lot you can do to make a real difference.
Our approach focuses on reducing waste at the source: finding ways to avoid making new stuff in the first place. Most of the environmental impact of a product comes from its manufacturing and shipping, so the most powerful thing we can do is simply use less.
Today, we partner with universities, cities, and organizations across the country to bring zero waste challenges to communities everywhere. Our partnership focus means we work alongside local leaders to create programs that fit each community's unique needs.
